Nutrition & Weight Management

Nutrition & Weight Management

Real Food. Real Results. No Fads.

You can exercise consistently, sleep reasonably well, and still feel like something’s off — low energy, stubborn weight, digestive discomfort, or a general sense that your body isn’t firing on all cylinders. Often the missing piece is nutrition.

At GX Physio & Sports Medicine Clinic, our registered nutritional therapist takes a whole-body, evidence-based approach to understanding why you feel the way you do — and building a personalised plan that actually fits your life. Whether you’re managing a health condition, trying to shift weight for good, supporting an active training schedule, or simply want to feel more like yourself again, we’re here for it.

Who Is Nutritional Therapy For?

The short answer: almost anyone.
The slightly longer answer:

⚖️ Weight Management

Struggling with weight that just won’t shift — or that keeps coming back? We look beyond calories to understand the hormonal, metabolic, and lifestyle factors driving your weight, and create a plan that’s sustainable, not punishing.

🏃 Sports Performance & Recovery

Training hard but not seeing the results you’d expect? Nutrition for performance isn’t just about protein shakes. We’ll optimise your fuelling strategy, recovery nutrition, and body composition so your hard work in the gym or on the field actually pays off.

🫀 Chronic Health Conditions

Many conditions — including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypothyroidism, and chronic fatigue — have a strong nutritional component. We work alongside your GP and wider care team to support your health through targeted dietary strategies.

🌿 Gut Health & Digestive Problems

Bloating, IBS, food intolerances, constipation, reflux — digestive issues are incredibly common and often under-addressed. We use detailed symptom analysis, dietary review, and where appropriate, functional testing to get to the root of the problem.

🧬 Hormonal Health

From PCOS and endometriosis to perimenopause and low testosterone, hormones and nutrition are deeply interconnected. We’ll help you understand what’s going on and how to support your hormonal health through food, lifestyle, and evidence-based supplementation.

⚡ Energy, Mood & Mental Clarity

If you’re relying on caffeine to function, crashing mid-afternoon, or struggling with brain fog, that’s not just “modern life” — it’s often a sign that your body isn’t getting what it needs. We’ll help you find steady, sustained energy from the inside out.

What Is Nutritional Therapy? How Does It Work?

Nutritional therapy is a personalised, evidence-based approach to health that uses food, lifestyle changes, and targeted supplementation to support your body’s natural functions. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all diet plan — it’s a detailed investigation into your unique biochemistry, habits, and health history.

The process is simple:

  1. Detailed Questionnaire – Before your first appointment, you’ll complete a comprehensive health questionnaire and a 3-day food and lifestyle diary. Your therapist will review this in full before you arrive.
  2. Initial Consultation (60 minutes) – A thorough, unhurried conversation covering your health goals, symptoms, lifestyle, digestion, energy, hormones, and anything else relevant to how you feel.
  3. Personalised Nutrition Plan – Following your consultation, you receive a written plan tailored specifically to you — practical, realistic, and evidence-based. No banned food lists. No generic templates.
  4. Follow-Up & Review (30 minutes)– Progress is reviewed and plans adjusted at follow-up appointments. Most clients find that just a handful of sessions produces lasting, meaningful change.

Why Is Nutritional Therapy SO Important?

The problem: Most people know diet matters but have no idea what their body actually needs. Generic advice — eat less, move more, cut carbs — ignores the individual entirely. And if you’ve ever been told your bloods are “normal” while still feeling anything but, you’ll know how frustrating that is.

The bigger picture: Nutritional deficiencies, gut imbalances, blood sugar dysregulation, and hormonal disruption are extraordinarily common — and frequently go undetected. The symptoms they cause (fatigue, weight gain, poor recovery, mood changes, digestive discomfort) tend to get dismissed or managed with medication rather than addressed at the root.

Early intervention saves time and suffering: Catching and correcting nutritional imbalances before they compound into bigger health problems is far simpler — and more effective — than trying to reverse established dysfunction.

Personalised nutrition works: A plan built around your biology, your lifestyle, and your goals will always outperform a generic diet. That’s not a theory — it’s well-supported by the evidence.

What Happens During Your Nutritional Therapy Consultation?

Your appointment is designed to be thorough and unhurried — because understanding your health properly takes time.

1. Before You Arrive

You’ll complete our detailed health questionnaire covering:

  • Medical history, diagnoses, and medications
  • Current symptoms and health concerns
  • Digestive health and bowel habits
  • Energy, sleep, mood, and stress
  • Family history of relevant conditions
  • A 3-day food and lifestyle diary

This means your therapist arrives fully prepared — and your 90 minutes together is spent on depth, not admin.

2. Initial Consultation (60 minutes)

An in-depth conversation covering everything relevant to your health:

  • Your health goals and what success looks like to you
  • Current symptoms and how long you’ve experienced them
  • Lifestyle factors (training load, sleep quality, stress levels, work environment)
  • Detailed dietary analysis from your food diary
  • Identification of nutritional gaps, patterns, and priorities

Where appropriate, we may recommend private blood testing through our in-house diagnostics service to give a precise biochemical picture alongside your nutritional assessment.

3. Your Personalised Nutrition Plan

Following your consultation, you’ll receive a written personalised plan covering:

  • Dietary recommendations specific to your goals and health status
  • Practical meal and snack guidance you can realistically implement
  • Targeted supplementation if indicated (evidence-based only)
  • Lifestyle recommendations to support your nutrition goals
  • Clear priorities — so you know what matters most and where to start

4. Follow-Up Appointments (30 minutes)

Follow-up appointments track your progress, troubleshoot any challenges, and refine your plan as your health evolves. Many clients find that 3–4 sessions across a few months is enough to produce significant, lasting change — with the knowledge and tools to maintain it independently.

  4. Referral Support – If blood testing, GP consultation, or physiotherapy input is needed, we coordinate that internally — no bouncing between providers
  5. Ongoing Tracking – Follow-up sessions to measure progress and keep your plan working as your life and health evolve

How Nutritional Therapy Links to Your GX Physio Care

This is the part that makes us different. Nutritional therapy at GX Physio doesn’t exist in isolation — it feeds directly into your physio treatment, GP consultations, and blood diagnostic results.

For Physio Patients:

  • Slow-healing injury? → Nutrition plays a direct role in tissue repair and inflammation management
  • Can’t build strength despite training? → Protein, micronutrient status, and hormonal balance all matter
  • Fatigue affecting your rehab? → Blood sugar regulation, iron, B12, and thyroid function are often the culprits

For Athletes & Active People:

  • Training plateau? → Fuelling strategy, recovery nutrition, and body composition assessment
  • Overtraining concerns? → Cortisol, inflammation, and nutritional depletion from high training loads
  • Recurring injuries? → Vitamin D, magnesium, collagen synthesis, and bone health nutrition

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS+

  1. What’s the difference between a nutritional therapist and a dietitian?
Dietitians are NHS-regulated and often work within clinical settings treating diagnosed conditions. Nutritional therapists are trained to work with individuals on a functional basis — looking at how nutrition and lifestyle influence overall health and wellbeing. Both have value. At GX Physio, our nutritional therapist works closely with our private GP and wider clinical team, so you get a joined-up approach.
  2. Will I be told to cut out lots of foods?
Not as a rule. Restriction-heavy approaches are rarely sustainable and can create an unhealthy relationship with food. Our goal is abundance — understanding what your body needs more of, and why certain foods may not be serving you — rather than handing you a list of things you’re not allowed.
  3. I’ve tried diets before and they haven’t worked. How is this different?
Because this isn’t a diet. Nutritional therapy looks at the underlying factors driving your symptoms — blood sugar dysregulation, gut imbalance, hormonal patterns, sleep quality, stress — and addresses those, rather than just restricting calories. Generic diets don’t account for you. This does.
  4. Do I need to have a health condition to benefit?
Not at all. Many clients come to us simply wanting more energy, better body composition, or to feel sharper and more resilient. Nutritional therapy is just as valuable as prevention as it is for managing existing health challenges.
  5. Can nutrition support my physio or injury recovery?
Yes — and this is one of the most powerful aspects of seeing a nutritional therapist within a physio clinic. Nutrition plays a direct role in tissue repair, inflammation management, bone health, and recovery from training or injury. Your nutritional therapist works alongside your physiotherapist where needed.
  6. Is nutritional therapy covered by health insurance?
Nutritional therapy is not currently available through health insurance and is self-pay only. Please contact us for current pricing or to ask any questions before booking.
  7. Where are you based?
Our nutritional therapy service is based at GX Physio, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. We’re easily accessible from Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Peter, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth, Amersham, and across South Bucks and the Chilterns.
